Extraordinary Ministers (EMs) to Healthcare Centers/Hospitals visit the Healthcare Centers/Hospitals each Sunday morning to pray with the Catholic people who are sick or elderly, and to distribute the Eucharist if they are able to receive it. The EMs to the Homebound visit once a week to distribute the Eucharist. The EMs provide an essential liaison between the sick and the parish, communicating any special spiritual needs of the sick and elderly to their EM Chairperson. The EM Chairperson shares those special needs with the priest or other appropriate St. Rose of Lima Ministries.
The EM to Healthcare Centers currently requires only 45 minutes to one hour beginning at 10 AM directly following 8:30 AM Mass at St. Rose on Sunday morning. The EMs to the Homebound arrange the day and time of their weekly visit directly with the Homebound person. The weekly visit, using our required Liturgy Card, takes approximately 20 minutes.
What is required?
Because this Ministry follows the requirements outlined in Canon Law and the GIRM, we are required to use specific Liturgy Cards during the distribution of the Eucharist.
A Eucharistic Minister to the Healthcare Centers/Hospitals and the Homebound needs to have a love and reverence for the Eucharist.
